*The Power of Service*
*Scripture:*
"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." - Mark 10:45 (NIV)
"Serve one another humbly in love." - Galatians 5:13 (NIV)
*Reflection:*
Service looks small, but it carries kingdom weight. Jesus, the King of glory, wrapped a towel around His waist and washed dirty feet. He redefined greatness not as being served, but as serving. The power of service is that it flips the world’s ladder upside down.
We often think influence comes from being noticed, promoted, or put in charge. Jesus showed that influence comes from lowering yourself to meet a need. Service has the power to break pride in you and to open hearts in others. It’s hard to stay bitter toward someone you’re serving, and it’s hard for someone to stay closed off when you serve them without expecting anything back.
Service also guards you from entitlement. When you serve, you remember that everything you have is a gift. You stop asking “What do I deserve?” and start asking “Who can I bless?” And God honors that posture. He lifts the humble, and He entrusts more responsibility to those who are faithful in unseen places.
The beautiful part is, you don’t need a title to serve. You need a willing heart. Making coffee, listening well, taking out the trash, praying for someone—none of it is wasted. Heaven notices what earth overlooks.
*Prayer:*
Jesus, thank You for modeling what real greatness looks like. Give me eyes to see needs around me and a heart willing to meet them without needing credit. Make me a servant like You. Amen.
*Application:*
- Look for one hidden need today and meet it without announcing it
- Serve someone who can’t repay you
- Check your motive: serve to love, not to be seen or validated
Jesus led by serving. Who is one person you can serve this week in a way that reflects His heart?
