The Need for Strength

*The Need for Strength*

*Scripture:*

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." - Joshua 1:9 (NIV)

"But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles." - Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

*Reflection:*

Life will demand more from you than you have on your own. That’s not a sign you’re failing—it’s a sign you were made to depend on God. Strength isn’t about never feeling weak. It’s about knowing where to go when you do.

The world tells you to hustle harder, push through, and act like you’ve got it together. God tells you something different: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” - 2 Corinthians 12:9. His strength shows up most clearly when yours runs out. That’s why Paul could say he delights in weakness. Weakness forces you off self-reliance and onto God-reliance.

Joshua was stepping into a massive calling, leading a nation into the unknown. God’s first word wasn’t “work harder.” It was “be strong and courageous, because I am with you.” The strength came from God’s presence, not Joshua’s ability. Same for you. The task, the decision, the season you’re in—it’s too big for you alone. And it’s not meant to be faced alone.

God renews strength when you wait on Him, not when you white-knuckle it. That looks like prayer, Scripture, honest worship, and letting Him speak into the exhaustion. His strength doesn’t always remove the challenge. Often it gives you the ability to stand in it without breaking.

*Prayer:*

Lord, I’m tired of trying to be strong on my own. I admit I need You. Be my strength today where I feel weak. Remind me that Your presence is enough, and that I don’t have to face this in my own power. Amen.

*Application:*

- Name it: identify one area where you feel weak or overwhelmed right now

- Hand it over: pray specifically and ask God to carry what you can’t

- Feed your strength: spend 10 minutes in Scripture or worship before tackling the day

You don’t have to manufacture strength today. Where do you need to stop striving and start relying on God’s strength instead?
