How to surrender to the Spirit

Updated: Oct 20, 2024

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit." - Romans 8:5 (ESV)*

In our human nature, we're often pulled towards gratifying our desires, chasing worldly pleasures that distract us from God's purpose. However, God calls us to a higher standard—to live by the Spirit, not by our fleshly desires.

Subjecting the flesh doesn't mean denying our humanity; rather, it means aligning our desires with God's will. It's a conscious decision to prioritize spiritual values over temporary indulgences. By doing so, we allow the Holy Spirit to guide our thoughts, actions, and ambitions.

**Reflection:**

Take a moment to examine your life. Are there areas where your desires are conflicting with God's plan? Reflect on instances where you've chosen momentary pleasure over God's will.

Now, envision the freedom and peace that come from surrendering those desires to God. As you surrender, you open space for His Spirit to work within you, guiding you towards a life filled with purpose and alignment with His divine plan.

**Prayer:**

Dear Heavenly Father,

I acknowledge my struggle with worldly desires and my need to subject my flesh to Your will. Help me, Lord, to surrender my desires, aligning them with Your purpose. Fill me with Your Spirit, guiding my thoughts and actions. Grant me strength to resist the temptations of the flesh and live according to Your divine plan. Amen.

**Closing Thought:**

Subjecting the flesh is a continual process—a daily choice to surrender to God's will. As you embark on this journey, remember that through His grace, you can overcome the desires of the flesh and live a life guided by the Spirit.
