What does the bible say about honouring Authorities

Honoring Authorities

Romans 13:1

[1]Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

Honoring authorities is an essential aspect of our faith as Christians. The Bible calls us to show respect, submission, and obedience to those in positions of authority over us. In Romans 13:1, the Apostle Paul writes, "Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God."

God has established various authorities in our lives - government leaders, employers, teachers, and even spiritual leaders. When we honor and obey them, we reflect our reverence for God and His divine order. This does not mean blind obedience or agreement with every decision, but rather understanding that God has entrusted certain individuals with leadership and influence.

Honoring authorities also cultivates a spirit of humility and unity. In 1 Peter 2:13-15, Peter encourages believers to "be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution." When we submit to authorities, we demonstrate our trust in the Lord's sovereignty.

However, there may be times when authorities act unjustly or contrary to God's principles. In such situations, we can seek guidance from God and follow His leading, while still maintaining a respectful attitude. The Apostle Peter says in Acts 5:29, "We must obey God rather than men." It is crucial to align our actions with God's Word and follow His higher authority.

Think about the authorities in your life. Are you honoring them with respect and obedience? Do you seek to maintain unity and promote harmony in your interactions? Let us pray together, asking God to help us cultivate a spirit of respect and submission towards those in authority, while also granting us discernment to stand firm in our faith when necessary. May God's wisdom and grace guide us as we navigate our relationships with authorities, always aiming to bring glory to His name.
